EDEN PRAIRIE

Youth scholarship fundraiser is Sunday Eden Prairie for Youth is holding its second annual fundraiser on Sunday to help give more Eden Prairie kids access to summer programs.

There are two seatings for the Sunday brunch fundraiser at Biaggi's in the Eden Prairie Mall: at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 for individuals and $45 for families. Proceeds will benefit the EP4Y Youth Scholarship Fund, which helps pay for summer program registration to help young people learn skills and stay busy over the summer.

Golf & Tennis Classic is Monday The Edina Education Fund's 7th Annual Golf & Tennis Classic will be held on Monday at the Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Av.

New Chanhassen High principal is named Tim Dorway has been selected to lead Chanhassen High School as its next principal. He is currently the principal at Rochester Mayo High School and served as an assistant principal in Owatonna.

The selection team, made up of staff members, parents and Eastern Carver County School District administrators, cited Dorway's leadership skills and vision for creating an outstanding high school experience for students.

"We attracted strong candidates from across the region," Assistant Superintendent Lynn Scearcy said in a news release, "and we had a thorough interview process. In the end, Tim's experience, knowledge and skills emerged as just what we need to keep Chanhassen High and our secondary redesign moving forward."

Dorway will begin his new job on July 1. Current Principal Paul McMahan is retiring June 30 after five years in the district.

Student honored as Presidential Scholar Minnetonka High School senior Raj Katti has been selected as a 2010 U.S. Presidential Scholar -- one of the most prestigious accolades an American high school student can attain.

The award recognizes the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors for their academic achievements, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service and contributions to school and community.

Katti is one of only three students from Minnesota and 141 nationally to receive the honor. Scholars will be recognized for their accomplishments in Washington, June 19-22.

Katti, an honor student and a National Merit finalist, scored a perfect 36 on his ACT. The last two summers, he has worked as a lab assistant in California Institute of Technology's Power, Environment and Energy research lab.
