Where did those Gophers go?
Marcus Carr (G, 19.4 points per game last season): NBA draft early entry and transfer portal. All-Big Ten point guard would have been league's top returning scorer, but he signed with an agent and is working out for NBA teams.
Liam Robbins (C, 11.7): Transferred to Vanderbilt. The Big Ten's top shot blocker might have stayed, but Vandy took him and his uncle Ed Conroy, a former Gophers assistant.
Gabe Kalscheur (G, 9.2): Transferred to Iowa State. Minnesota's collapse after his broken hand showed how valuable his defense and leadership were to the team.
Brandon Johnson (F, 8.9): Transferred to DePaul. The transfer from Western Michigan considered returning, but playing back home in Chicago was too hard to pass up.
Jamal Mashburn Jr. (G, 8.2): Followed coach Richard Pitino to New Mexico. Will get his chance to have a big role in the same system with the Lobos.
Both Gach (G, 6.8): Transferred to Utah. Initially convinced by Ben Johnson to stay, but he saw more opportunity to make an impact by returning to his old team in Salt LAke City.
Tre' Williams (G, 5.8): Transferred to Oregon State, an Elite Eight team this year. Came on strong in a starting role at the end of 2020-21.
Eric Curry (F-C, 3.7): Graduate assistant. Grew passion for coaching while helping teammates from the bench during his injury-plagued Gophers career.
David Mutaf (G, 3.3): Returned to his home country during the season last year and followed his brother into pro basketball in Turkey.
Jarvis Omersa (F, 1.7): Transferred to St. Thomas. Frustration over role and COVID-19 concerns led to athletic Orono native's midseason departure last year.
Martice Mitchell (F, 1.3): Transferred to Northern Illinois. Length and athleticism weren't enough to see the court for the 6-10 Chicago native.
Sam Freeman (C, 1.1): Transferred to Pacific. Big and physical post presence, but his opportunity to play a major role was somewhere else.
