Will Dangerous Danielle, Envious Earl Bash Bermuda?

August 27, 2010 at 7:25PM

Tropical Storm Earl is lurking in the shadows of Danielle, but is destined totake a path more to the west of its older tropical sister. It could be a caseof sibling rivalry. It would seem Bermuda is staring down the double barrels of a shotgun withDanielle and Earl cruising nearby.

Hurricane Danielle reached Category 4 status early Friday morning withsustained winds reaching 135 mph at 5:00 a.m. EDT.

Danielle remains a dangerous hurricane, and because of its size and strengthwill bring rough surf and gusty winds to the islands of Bermuda thisweekend.

AccuWeather.com meteorologists expect tropical storm conditions over the islandnation this weekend with potential for a squall or two from a spiral bandbringing worse conditions for a brief time.

Gusts could be strong enough to cause minor property damage and toss looseitems around, while waves may over-wash some exposed beachfront areas.

Unlike Colin earlier in the season, Danielle will remain a strong tropicalentity as it reaches Bermuda's latitude.

Earl will strengthen this weekend and is forecast by AccuWeather.commeteorologists to reach at least Category 3 status early next week.

AccuWeather.com Hurricane Expert Joe Bastardi said, "Earl is a tricky storm andcould re-curve to the northeast or could be shunted westward closer to Bermudaor perhaps toward the eastern U.S."Both interests in Bermuda and from the Carolinas of the U.S. to Nova Scotia andNewfoundland need to keep a close eye on Earl as it is destined to trackconsiderably farther to the west than Danielle.

As for the exact track of Earl, it is too early to tell. However, weatherparameters are forecast to play out in such a way that at least Danielle will"avoid" making a direct hit on Bermuda.

Both storms could be close enough to play on the sands of the islandnation.

Earl could grab weather headlines next week with a tour of East coastwaters.
