Dancing in a dark fairy tale

Despite the name, Ballet Preljocaj is quite contemporary. Led by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, the French dance company is known for a visceral, provocative repertoire, mining fairy tales for subversion and exploring apocalyptic themes from Shakespeare and the Bible. With "La Fresque (The Painting on the Wall)," Preljocaj adapts a disturbing Chinese fairy tale for a show featuring balletic abstractions and a dramatic set, all accompanied by an electro-fusion score by French composer Nicolas Godin. (7:30 p.m. Sat., Northrop, 84 SE. Church St., Mpls., $22-$47, 612-624-2345, northrop.umn.edu.)
