Wolves-Washington gameday preview
Covington gets closer to return
Wolves update: The Timberwolves recalled Robert Covington from their G-League affiliate in Iowa, a sign that the forward is closer to playing as he recovers from a right knee bone bruise. He is still ruled out for Sunday, the 24th game in a row he has missed. … Luol Deng is questionable because of a sore left Achilles' tendon that caused him to miss Thursday's loss at Indiana. Interim coach Ryan Saunders wasn't optimistic Deng would be able to play. … In his past three games, Andrew Wiggins is shooting only 3-for-16 on three-pointers.
Wizards update: They have slipped out of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference following John Wall's injuries. The point guard ruptured his left Achilles' tendon while recovering from left heel surgery. Wall's injury set the franchise trajectory back for the Wizards, who dealt Otto Porter at the deadline to the Bulls for Jabari Parker, Bobby Portis and a second-round pick in 2023. Parker has played in eight games for the Wizards, averaging 10.8 points per game. Portis is averaging 14 points per game with Washington. … The Wizards still have a prolific scorer in All-Star guard Bradley Beal, waveraging a career-high 25.8 points per game on 48 percent shooting. Beal is also shooting a career-high 82.6 percent on free throws.
