A St. Paul woman remained hospitalized Thursday at the same facility where the man suspected of shooting her was arrested.

Michelle Marie Ploetz, 20, was taken to Regions Hospital after she was shot while sitting in a SUV on White Bear Avenue near E. 7th Street shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the hospital and booked for felony assault in connection with the shooting.

Police said the man knew Ploetz and the two had gotten into an argument before the shooting near the busy East Side intersection. A police report described the incident as a domestic assault.

Police had said that Ploetz had suffered critical injuries, but on Thursday a Regions spokeswoman wouldn't comment on her condition. Police said her condition had not changed.

According to her Facebook page, Ploetz is a mother and attends St. Catherine University in St. Paul, where she is studying business administration, a university spokeswoman said.
