YoungStars game is stage for Wheeler

The former Breck and Gophers athlete earned MVP honors after a four-goal performance.

MONTREAL – Boston Bruins rookie Blake Wheeler was the YoungStars game MVP after scoring four goals to lead the rookies to a 9-5 victory over the sophomores on Saturday during All-Star weekend events.
Wheeler, a former Gopher from Breck, scored on Montreal goalie Carey Price — the Eastern Conference starter for today's All-Star ame — in each of the three 6-minute periods in the 3-on-3 game.
Tampa Bay's Steve Stamkos scored twice, and St. Louis' Patrick Berglund, Toronto's Luke Schenn and Los Angeles' Drew Doughty added goals for coach Luc Robitaille's rookies.
Rangers defenseman Marc Staal scored twice on Nashville's Pekka Rinne for coach Peter Mahovlich's sophomores.
