  • Chronic wasting disease, which affects deer, moose and elk, is always fatal.
    • Neurological and likened to mad-cow disease, it is contagious via saliva, urine and feces.
      • It's carried by prions, misshaped cellular protein that can live in soil for years once shed.
        • There is no evidence it affects humans.
