Blatant Disregard

With over 90 percent of ice still covering Lake Mille Lacs, Tribal nets are being set and could be lost under shifting ice.

In the spring 2008, Tribal walleye nets on Lake Mille Lacs were lost under shifting ice due to predicted wind direction changes.

Evidently, they learned NOTHING from that situation.

With TOTAL disregard of potentially wasting more walleyes and creating a potential public boating safety setting later in the season, due to lost nets, with over 90 percent of the lake still ice covered, the Bands have, again, set nets destined for the same outcome of 2008. Wind forecasts are for winds shifting daily/nightly in the next week. And it still goes on. Out of control. Our Mn. DNR is schooled to NOT interfere(including public safety problems in open water?). Band leaders sit back and gamble with a states resource--with TOTAL disregard for potential problems. It's only a matter of time..... contact Steve Fellegy at 651-270-3383 or sf1954@embarqmail.com
