Hennepin County and Metropolitan Council leaders are hosting a public hearing for residents to review preliminary design plans for the Blue Line light rail extension.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at the NorthPoint Conference Center, 1256 N. Penn Ave. in Minneapolis. The Met Council is seeking input and approval from local governments, including Hennepin County, for preliminary plans for the light rail extension.

The planned route runs from Target Field northwest to Brooklyn Park, through Minneapolis, Crystal and Robbinsdale. Communities along the route must consent to the Met Council’s plans or offer alternatives.

The extension’s cost is expected to top $3 billion, split between federal funds and Hennepin County, and be operational in 2030.
