Tropical Cyclone Mick will be very close to hurricane force as it crosses Fijitoday. Winds to 80 mph and 5-10 inches of rain are expected today across theisland nation.Mick gained strength over the weekend and will continue to intensify as itpasses through Fiji. The storm will impact the most populated portions of Fiji.

Conditions may be bad enough to shut down the international airport. Fiji is apopular tourist resort and is home to almost one million residents. Many peopletravel from island to island by boat. This will be difficult, if notimpossible, today.
The South Pacific is very busy with tropical activity. There are currently twotropical cyclones in the southern Indian Ocean that do not pose a threat toland. There is also a tropical cyclone, Laurence, north of Australia. Laurencecould be a headline maker in the days to come as it skirts the Australian coastand strengthens.
