St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter's "State of Our City Summit" has been postponed, in anticipation of the snowstorm expected to slam the Twin Cities this weekend.

The event, the mayor's first State of the City, was scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Johnson Senior High School in St. Paul. A new date has not yet been announced.

"It is our desire to host a powerful, welcoming and energizing event to promote community and create a shared vision for Saint Paul," the mayor's office said in a mass email Friday afternoon. "Unfortunately, the forecasted weather presents too many variables and risks to proceed as originally planned."

Unlike a typical State of the City address, the event was going to include time for attendees to discuss and offer feedback after Carter's speech. Community panel discussions were planned around issues of economic justice, lifelong learning and community-first public safety.

"Our first annual State of Our City Summit is an opportunity for residents from our across Saint Paul to join the conversation about the future of our city," Carter said in a March 26 statement announcing the event. "With increasing national division, in St. Paul, we champion local unity, and our summit invites everyone to join us in moving forward together."
