Trophy tales: Massive northern makes for heavy lifting

Justin Hockensmith, a St. Paul native, caught the above 38.5-inch trophy pike May 23 drifting dead ciscos in the BWCA. Hockensmith released the fish, which he estimated to be at least 18 years old.

NO DOUBT, A BIG TROUT

Wendy Mowry of Rosemount caught this 28-inch trout on Lake Superior on May 23. Mowry was with a local charter, which was trolling about 20 minutes from the Duluth Harbor when she hooked the fish. She landed it several minutes later.
