A recent Coldwell Banker Burnet compared the average list price of a four-bedroom, two-bathroom properties on the market in 45 communities throughout Minnesota from September 2010 to March 2011 to come up with the most- and least-expensive housing markets in the state. The winners? Owatonna was the least expensive at $146,652 and at $348,493 Red Wing was the most expensive. I have to admit that I wouldn't have pegged either community for the distinction, but given that the sample was limited to just 45 markets, it's not too surprising. The search didn't include more the high-buck markets you'd expect, such as Edina and North Oaks.
To see a list of the 45 cities, their national rank and average price, Coldwell has an online interactive graphic with more details on theirwebsite.
And oh, the overall average for that four-bedroom house in Minnesota was $211,633; nationwide it was $293,251.
What's the most affordable housing market housing market in Minnesota? The least affordable? You might be surprised.
The survey looked at the average price of a four-bedroom house in various markets.
